Synopsis

Energy has appeared as a major actor for present day's local and global-level environmental and societal challenges such as resources depletion, global warming and climate change. Energy efficiency and alternative energy sources are the twin-pillars that can address the contemporary energy related challenges. Energy efficiency gap houses across the entire energy conversion value chains. This book describes the technology and scientific understanding of thermodynamics and energy conversion methods as well as the fundamental principles of energy economic issues.

This book consists of 10 chapters. Chapter 1 provides a background of the issues discussed in this book and provides a brief summary of each chapter. Every year, a huge amount of wastes are generated in palm oil industry. Chapter 2, 3 and 4 address several energy conversion issues from palm wastes to useful bioenergy. Natural gas is a major source of global electricity generation, chapter 5 discusses the effect of natural gas constituent on its flame behaviour and propagation in route to combustion for power generation.

Chapter 6 and 7 discuss the thermoelectric technology as a tool for cooling and power generation purposes. Chapter 8 presents an experimental study of friction force generation from wood based material on a heat engine. Chapter 9 performs an energy efficiency analysis for a combined cycle power plant and the last chapter introduces the concept of energy economics to enhance economic efficiency in energy conversion process.

The readers of this book with a basic understanding of thermodynamics can recognize the problems associated with several energy conversion processes and can play a role to reap up the energy efficiency potentials that leads to sustainable energy.
