The ultimate goal of sustainable building is to encourage environmental preservation as well as the well-being and health of the occupants. Despite the fact that sustainable building practices has been established as an effort to discover architectural approaches that support three dimensions of sustainability in buildings (environmental, economic, and social), occupant well-being has always been one of the issues in built environment sustainability. This is because the rapid development of buildings over the years has incorporated problems such as hidden moisture problems that cause mold, indoor air contaminants, poor daylight access, stuffy odour and insufficient fresh air. As a result, occupant exposure to these inadequate indoor conditions has been associated with adverse health effects, lower work performance, loss in productivity, and higher rates of sick absence. The building industry has shown a growing interest in improving the quality of the indoor environment and preserving the well-being of occupants. The term of well-being has become a conventional agenda of sustainability in the building industry. However, providing an optimal indoor environment that satisfies the majority of building occupants presents substantial challenges as different occupant groups may react with different perceptions and satisfaction within the same indoor environment. Therefore, understanding the range of impacts of buildings on the well-being of the occupants as well as holistic approaches to enhance occupant well-being are critical to the successful development of sustainable buildings</p> Sheau-Ting Low, Razlin Mansor; Weng-Wai Choong, Fitriyah Razali, Gabriel Hoh Teck Ling, Mohd Hamdan Ahmad, Nurul Aina Ibrahim, Nurul Hana Adi Maimun, Nurul Syakima Mohd Yusoff, Pau Chung Leng, Siti Zaleha Daud, Siaw-Chui Wee, Dilshan Remaz Ossen Copyright (c) 2024 Low Sheau Ting, Razlin Mansor https://epress.utm.my/index.php/editedbook/catalog/book/132 Mon, 16 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0800 BIMBINGAN PENGUKURAN BAGI PROFESION GEOMATIK https://epress.utm.my/index.php/editedbook/catalog/book/181 <p>Book chapters ini mengandungi 10 bab bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tentang prinsip-prinsip dalam perlaksanaan peperiksaan dan amali bagi laluan kerjaya profesion juruukur tanah di Malaysia. They are defined as large biomolecules, or macromolecules, consisting of one or more long chains of amino acid residues. Proteins perform a variety of functions in the cell, including catalysing metabolic and biochemical reactions, assisting DNA replication, responding to external and internal stimuli, and transporting molecules from one location to another intracellularly or extracellularly. Protein studies are important in the fields of biomedicine, environmental sciences, and industrial applications. Understanding of how protein works at the molecular level assists in the development of new disease therapy, discovers and improves the activity of industrially-important enzymes, and reveals beneficial secondary metabolites in medicinals plants, among many other interesting applications. Molecular investigation of proteins requires specialised instruments and precise techniques. Other than the commonly used sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), and Western blotting (also known as protein immunoblotting), there are many other advanced techniques currently used. The techniques include surface plasmon resonance, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. Computational techniques are also indispensable in supporting wet lab experiments, and to provide precious information not observable with any other methods. This research book is aimed at showcasing various research on proteins previously or currently being carried out at UTM. With the acquisition of increasingly sophisticated instruments, software, and the development of many new techniques, protein science research is currently on the rise. Each of these chapters discusses a different type of industrial, agricultural and natural wastes that demonstrate promise for future use in construction industries. Recycling of those waste materials found in abundance, can avoid deleterious environmental hazards and their incorporation has actually produced products towards sustainable construction. The results presented in these studies are not only beneficial both economically and environmentally, but also provide the industry with technical information on valuable resources that has a key role in meeting the challenges of sustainable construction in today's world. The high demand of natural resources due to rapid urbanization and the disposal problem of industrial and agricultural wastes have created opportunities for utilising these wastes (building demolished waste, laterite aggregates, garnet, water treatment plant waste, plastic aggregates, palm oil clinker) as aggregates replacement in the concrete. Research has shown that waste materials incorporated in concrete could enable the construction industry to become more sustainable and economical but also a contributor to overcome other related ecological, sociological and economic problems associated with it.</p> Abdul Rahman Mohd.
