The roles of women and children in disaster risk reduction were often overlooked, leading to the neglect of their needs and demands during disasters. Therefore, it is crucial to address their needs by engaging them in disaster risk reduction programmes, whilst simultaneously increasing their awareness and resilience toward disasters. This book documents selected case study that has been designed to meet the following objectives: (1) Equipping women exposed to disaster risk with training and knowledge, whilst enhancing their local capacity, leadership, and participation in disaster preparedness, recovery, resilience, and climate change adaptation; and (2) Developing accessible and inclusive disaster risk reduction and resilience aimed at strengthening and rebuilding social support structures that can provide security for women and children, as vulnerable groups. Among the methods adopted for these case studies includes questionnaires, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), flood risk mapping, town watching and the use of disaster preparedness almanacs. The programme for each site began with a briefing and sharing session before to providing participants with insights into how disasters affect them and how they can contribute to reducing disaster risks. Through this programme, women and children can be empowered to play their roles in disaster risk reduction, while enhancing their resilience to disasters that are affecting their communities. This approach ensures that women and children, who experiences local disasters can respond from their perspective, and emerge as local champions.</p> SITI UZAIRIAH MOHD TOBI Copyright (c) 2025 UTM Press - Research Book https://epress.utm.my/index.php/researchbook/catalog/book/238 Wed, 26 Nov 2025 00:00:00 +0800
