Synopsis

This chapter examines the concept of “Higher Education Without Walls,” demonstrating how technology, internationalization, and learning models are transforming universities, with particular reference to Samsun University. It outlines the origins of the framework and explains its growing relevance as institutions respond to global demands, declining enrollments, and the need for wider access. Internationalization is framed as a strategic, multidimensional process involving partnerships, mobility, and curriculum innovation. The chapter analyses how this vision intersects with digitalization, hybrid learning, sustainability, and cross-border collaboration. Online and hybrid education are highlighted as key mechanisms for expanding access to international learners. The chapter discusses curriculum reforms that address global challenges, such as sustainability, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinarity, using selected examples. Artificial intelligence is presented as a transformative tool supporting personalized learning, administrative efficiency, and international engagement. The chapter concludes that adopting this model enables universities to enhance global engagement, diversify revenue, promote equity, and cultivate globally minded citizens.
