Synopsis

Forensic engineering is the investigation of materials, products, structures or components that fail or do not operate or function as intended, causing personal injury or damage to property. From a legal perspective, forensic engineering is a fact-finding mission to learn the most probable cause or causes of a failure. The field also deals with retracing processes and procedures leading to accidents in operation of vehicles or machinery.

The edited book consists of ten (10) chapters. The first and second chapters focused on the fundamental of forensic engineering and the importance of data integrity in forensic investigation. Later, the book will bring readers to the process and investigation of forensic engineering based on lessons learnt from geotechnical and structural failures in chapter three (3) until ten (10).

The case studies involved in this edited book are the effect of induced slope instability on a sheet pile wall failure, investigation in failures of temporary structure, shop building and bridges. The case studies also involved structural assessment projects for a three storey accommodation flat and precast concrete structure during a construction.

This book inspired by the crucial needs of a forensic engineer for a real reference and case studies in a field of forensic engineering. The case studies which provided in this book will assist practitioners to carry out a sound methodology and findings investigation that will be used as a reliable proof in a courtroom. This book is important in the sense that it provides a detail explanation on overview of forensic engineering case studies specifically in Malaysia. It also can be used for outside Malaysia with similar faulty and accidental issues.
